Help! I've Fallen Into a Vat of GREENWASH!
Okay... I haven't blogged in weeks!!!!
Thanksgiving hangover???? But I do have one important thing to say today. Shopping is not "GREEN." It's not green if you by the item online from the NPR green shop. It's not green if you walk to the store and purchase something made locally. It's not green if you buy it at the School Craft Fair "fundraiser."
Shopping is inherently NOT GREEN. Whenever we discard something that is perfectly useful in favor of something new, or add new things to our closet or home that we can easily do without, we are not acting in a GREEN way. There's just no getting around this fact.
To that end, I’ll admit that I bought a new car this weekend. Gasp! I kept my old car about a year longer than I should have realizing that that the most Greenhouse gas producing time of a car’s life is in the production of said car. The very greenest thing you can do is to drive your well running, smogged car into the ground before buying a new one. I struggled with what to get.
I was going to get a used, luxury sedan, because let’s face it, in real estate, my customers see the car I drive and make assessments about my success based on what I am driving. In the end, I did end up getting the Prius though. I have to say… I LOVE it! It is actually fabulous in so many ways!!!
I bought my Prius from George Abrams at Toyota of Berkeley. George was incredible! He made the process quick and easy and as affordable as possible for me. George was great with my son and really fun as well as knowledgeable about the cars.
In the end, being green is all about choices and arming yourself with the best information possible. Keep up the GREEN thoughts!
